Under The Reservoir Part Four :: news

July 07, 2010

And so, the honesty episode. The one to reveal what we are really like, behind the “glitz, glamour and greasepaint” (wait a minute, we are poorly acquainted with all three of those concepts). Anyway, this is the Fanfarlo left when the banter stops and the finally mask slips. Thrill! as Justin tells all about exactly how he joined the band. Gasp! as Simon unveils the secrets behind his creative process. Swoon! as Amos talks us through his so-called “love life.” In any case, marvel at Brian Gonzalez’s masterly camerawork and editing, once again doing a sterling job at making us look cooler by far than we actually are. Watching his films makes us want to be in Fanfarlo … which is lucky, I guess.

Under The Reservoir Part Three :: news

June 29, 2010

Episode III – Being in the studio is a slightly different kind of crazy to being on the road. This episode documents the tiny window we had in which to create the version of ‘Atlas,’ now included in the forthcoming Twilight ‘Eclipse’ movie. We did this at Mike McCarthy’s studio in Austin, Texas between South-by shows. It doesn’t have the manic intensity of the live based previous episode, but hey, we were concentrating, and, for once, weren’t that drunk. Watch and learn, mofos.

Under The Reservoir Part Two :: news

June 21, 2010

Episode II – Ah, yes, the “sexy” episode. There’s something infantalising about being in a band in general, and being on tour specifically. Even at our modest level, there’s generally someone to make sure you get up in the morning, remember to eat occasionally, etc. So there is plenty of time to get down to core subjects of talking about sex and bodily functions. As Justin says, “We are so going to be judged for this,” but please go easy on us. We mean well.

We’d never actually met just-out-of-film-school-cinematographer Brian Gonzalez before spending every waking – and some sleeping – moments with him tailing us round this year’s SXSW festival film camera in hand. He turned out to be a tenacious little whatshisname with his own agenda and no respect for our boundaries, so after a while (ooh, maybe 4 or 5 minutes) we stopped trying to be on our best behaviour and decided to let it all hang out, come what may, including playing along with the parallel “waking dream” strand, without asking too many questions. The results have caused some small amount of soul-searching within the band, but stand as a pretty accurate portrait of what it’s like kicking around with us for any length of time — however much we’d like to think otherwise. We had a lot of fun making it and hope you have some fun watching it.
Enjoy,
Fanfarlo

We’ve just made a new video for ‘Fire Escape’. In fact it’s more of a short film than a music video… and there’s an alternative ending to the story as well!

Stereogum debuted the two versions of the video today, as well as a Dave Sitek remix of the song. Listen to it on Stereogum here.
