Signed! :: diary

So we had fun releasing our record independently for a while. That shit becomes pretty tough and expensive when you’re trying to drag six hungry musicians half way round the world to play shows to people that wanna hear it.
So we’ve been in talks for a while now with top dude Steve Ralbovsky at Canvasback Records in New York, batting a contract back and forth across the water and this week we finally come up with something we’re all totally excited about.
John Best took an hour away from busy busy FANFARLO HQ to bring down the contract to UNIT RAD where we are currently in lock-down rehearsing for our upcoming U.S. tour.
The Ceremonious signing took place on the stairwell next to the overflowing smelly bins. No champagne for us. Just Simon’s and Cathy’s smelly Turkish food.
The changing of the MySpace status to ‘Signed’ will be a far more prestigious event i’m sure.

So from now on FANFARLO are more or less gonna be on lockdown in UNIT RAD which is our new rehearsal space that also doubles as a screen printers and a home to general art based happenings . I used my shithot skills to take this awesome picture of AMOS rocking out with some crazy guitar type contraption we found in there. Check the metal eagle headstock \m/

Amster-Damn it’s hot and there are only 4 of us. :: diary
August 24, 2009
Simon, Leon, Jeremy and i flew to Holland this Saturday with the plan of being joined by Cathy and Amos on Sunday. For on Sunday we had a gig to play to the lovely dutch people at the LOWLANDS festival.
The weather was crazy hot so after checking in to our crazy up-market 4 star hotel we trained it to Amsterdam and hired some bikes.
On our travels we stopped next to a canal for some awesome food.
We then got ‘Takeaway’ from a coffee shop and headed back to the hotel but not before a swift visit to the red light district which caused some of us to recoil in disgust and others to scramble to see how much money they had left in their wallets.
There’s a party in Simon’s mouth and if you give him £20 you’re invited.
The morning not only brought another wicked hotel breakfast but also the news that Amos and Cathy had missed their flight and wouldn’t be coming. This left it to just the 4 of us to wing a show that was kinda thrown together about an hour before stage time
and we were totally excited about. The 300+ audience were amazing and seemed to dig the show and it’s was the most fun we’d had onstage in a while.
After the show Simon, Leon and I hopped over to WALIBI WORLD which was home to the biggest roller coaster we had ever seen. Leon and Simon turned into irrational,screaming children for the duration of the ride whilst I felt sick as a dog from 10 seconds in until about an hour after. Balls.
I hate this ride and i hate Walibi World.
Best time ever.

When pigs attack. :: diary

Sadley we have had to cancel our Summer Sundae gig today because the lovely Cathy has contracted the dreaded SWINE FLU.
News is she is making a swift recovery and i’m sure she is single handedly changing the metaphors we use to describe illness, thus turning her plight into a positive event.
So bearing in mind the raging argument hinted at above, that was dragged from Cathy’s athropology classes into the FANFARLO tour bus, i would actually like to congratulate Cathy on her change in physical status and hope she has enjoyed the experience.
Love Justin

Tour de North London :: diary
August 12, 2009
On Sunday i went and called for Amos to see if he wanted to come out and play. As it happened he had to return the tour bus to the depot from our gig the previous day so we bundled our bikes in the back and headed to Golders Green to return the van.
Once we had dropped off the van Amos on the pink BROMPTON and me on my Fixed gear/wheel AENDE headed south through Cricklewood and Hampstead heath. We whipped out the camera as we spotted this rather amusingly altered sign.
We shared a look of acknowledgement with a dude taking a photo of the same sign. He rather sheepishly asked us if we were the dudes from FANFARLO. Corey turned out to be a fan on holiday from Colorado who had been enjoying the album not half hour before in the park. We had some photos taken together and chatted about bikes for a bit before going our respective ways. Hope to see you at a gig near Colorado soon dude.
We then rode to the top of Primrose Hill and down again where i went arse over tit trying to play the big man and skidding down said hill. All i heard as i flew through the air was ‘‘told you’‘ as Amos rode away, embarrassed and pretending not to be with me.
